about
Run With You has been around since 2015. I wrote it after listening to Turnpike Troubadours one day. I really think their small-town story telling deeply influenced the lyrics of this song (with some help from RP Oates too).
We recorded this song in 2016 for an EP with the same title. We wanted to do a bigger sound back then, something “radio friendly”. We hired an amazing producer who heard a Mumford and Sons, four-on-the-floor type beat for it. We slowed it down A LOT and took out all bluegrass-like solos.
Thunder and rain with drums never panned out like we thought it would, and because of convenience and circumstance we stayed a string band even after recording drum-heavy Start Believing. We tried to play Run With You at the pace of the recording, but it fell flat at shows. After one show in particular, I decided to always play that song the old, bluegrassy way that I knew had always spoke to audiences.
When we were picking songs for this record, I was adamant about rerecording Run With You. I knew it was one of our most popular original songs, and I thought it deserved another shot. So we did it like we do it live, and we got it in three takes while in the booth.
lyrics
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
It’s a small town game you’re goin’ to lose
If you’re keepin’ up with what they did
The life you’ve led since you’re a kid
Mama’s been talkin’ she’s on your case
She says your too comfy in the same old place
She will shed a tear as you break the news
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Swing me down
Across the wooden floor
Of every bar in every state you’ve never been before
You and I’s all we need
Nothin’ more to do
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Late at night I have the same ol’ dream
We find a new way out of the same ol’ thing
I’ll never steer you wrong never turn you loose
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Swing me down
Across the wooden floor
Of every bar in every state you’ve never been before
You and I’s all we need
Nothin’ more to do
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Can’t stand the way talk circulates
Can’t do nothin’ you can get away with
See the look on your mama’s face
Her only boy is going away with
Me
Swing me down
Across the wooden floor
Of every bar in every state you’ve never been before
You and I’s all we need
Nothin’ more to do
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Take my hand and I’ll run with you
Take my hand and I’ll run with you

Sweet album. Recommended to anyone who enjoys Gillian Welch-esque Americana with a personal turn. Thanks to Bandcamp for featuring this album! Solituned

The whole album is awesome. But I gravitated first toward "Portland". Then "Wildwood Flower" because I'm familiar the 10,000 Maniacs cover. Very different; AVK's is very contemplative. Jameson Calantoc
Utterly gorgeous songs that combine traditional folk and bluegrass with the Jewish Sabbath liturgy to moving effect. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 24, 2023
